I walked into the Halloween store after the interview, even though I knew that I couldn't afford to buy Andrew the Halloween costume he wanted. Halloween is HUGE to him, and I love that about him. These are the moments, these are the days the kids will always remember.
I walked in there and searched for the alligator costume..I found one, three actually, but they were sizes 2-4 or "toddler" sizes; Andrew is definitely not "toddler" size, he's not even a size 8 (his age -- that's how it works, right?) he's a 14!!!!
Of course, all the "cool" costumes were like $49 or $69....yeah, no.
*start looking in the "$19.99 or less" section =/ *
I'm sorry, but $69 dollars for a costumes he may wear for a day is a bit too much.
I made a mental note of all the costumes we could afford and at bed time, I brought it up to Andrew..
Me: "Hey, so, I went to the Halloween store after work and I couldn't find ANY alligator costumes."
Andrew: "How about Manatee costumes?"
...you do know about his current fascination with manatees, right? yeah...we'll get into that later...
Me: "No, no manatee costumes either honey. How about a pirate? Wanna be a pirate? we could get an eye patch and a hook...a pirate hat...?"
Andrew: "No, pirates steal treasures."
Me: "How about a dude in a jail suit? you know, the ones with the strapped jammies."
Andrew: "Mommmm, I dont want to go to jail, no, not a jail guy."
..what a great answer, he wants to be an animal dammit, preferably one he wants to save, not a friggin guy in jail. What was I thinking? asking Mr. "Why-does-the speed-limit-sign-say-65-and-the-car-says-74?" to pick a pirate costume, representing someone who steals and breaks the law!!
He makes me PROUD!!! =)
Want to hear a funny story?
Everytime we see a cop, I always tell the kids to "Behave and act normal"...by this I mean "Quit pulling your seatbelt far enough to bother your sister and make her scream like a raving maniac!" yet, when they say it, I feel like I'm doing something illegal. hmmm...speeding isn't that illegal, right? =/
Anyway, back to the bedtime costume discussion...
Me: "How about a pizza costume?" (Mind you, this child would probably eat Italian sausage with extra cheese for the rest of his life if I let him)
Andrew: "Is it Sausage?"
Dammit! No it's not, I remember seeing green peppers and red onions on the costume...
Me: "I don't remember, I think it might be combination."
Andrew: "Mommm, you know I only like Sausage!"
What was I thinking? =/
